This news left a very sour taste in the mouth of Nollywood fans because yet again, another Nollywood marriage crashes. Funke is a Nollywood darling and her marriage was one of the many things she was admired for. Disinformation About Inec Registering Voters in Niger Spreads

  By Chiagozie Nwonwu A story that social media users in Nigeria have been sharing that purports that the country's  electoral body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (Inec) is registering people for voters cards in the neighbouring Niger Republic has been proven to be false.     The false story claimed Inec has over 20 voter registration units in the Niger Republic. The story appears to have emanated from a user  comment under a post by online newspaper Sahara Reporters, it was then screen grabbed and shared across social media, especially WhatsApp.  The claims were then amplified by other social media users.  A Facebook user, Mazi IK Ijezie did this by adding a picture of people queuing and suggesting that they are in one of the centres in Niger.   The picture however is old and has been circulating on social media since July 2018. Lagos State inaugurate Anti-Okada Enforcement Squad

By Akinyemi Esther Photo credit: Transport Day The Lagos State Government has officially inaugurated a 600-man Anti-Okoda enforcement squad to enforce order on the menace and activities of commercial motor-cyclist to enforce the ban of Okada across six Local Government Areas and nine Local Council Development Areas of the state. The inauguration was held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, organized by the State Minister of Transportation, the certificate was presented by the Commissioner for Housing, Mr Fatai Akinderu during the ceremony. The members of the squad had earlier undergone orientation and certification. The squad is expected to join. The police force in enforcing the motorcyclist ban on all highways, major roads, bridges and across the six LGA where the ban affects the state. Lawyer wears Native Doctor regalia to Court

By Chimezie UcheAgbo Photo credit: Everyman Eleanya Nigerian Human Rights lawyer, Malcolm Omirhobo shocked onlookers and showed up to attend a proceeding at the Supreme Court in Abuja dressed as a traditionalist in a court robe. He wore two layers of clothes: his white shirt with a red wrapper as that of a traditional witch doctor and then a court robe with white chalk around his eyes. He also adorned his wig with some feathers. This left people in shock as they wondered what the legal luminary was up to as he walked barefooted with  yellow bell anklets around his two ankles.  In an interview with newsmen, Omirhobo described himself as a traditionalist, saying he was motivated to show up in court in the regalia by the ruling of the Supreme Court last week that gives the right to female Muslim pupils to attend school in hijab in public schools in Lagos. Nollywood actress Olufunke Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa, is among the people shortlisted. A picture of Jandor and Akindele had gone viral on Friday, suggesting that the Nollywood actress had been chosen as the deputy governorship candidate. Roe vs Wade refers to a decision of the US Supreme Court that the country’s constitution protects the liberty of a pregnant woman to choose to have an abortion. Liberal politicians and women’s rights groups have long hailed Roe Vs Wade as the arbiter for access to safe, legal and effective abortions. Senator Ekweremadu and his wife, Nwanneka were arrested by the metropolitan police of the UK on allegations of conspiracy to arrange/facilitate travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvest. The Ekweremadus have been remanded in police custody following the denial of their bail application by a judge in Uxbridge magistrate court. According to the prosecuting attorney, the court lacked jurisdiction to try the case and hence needs the consent of the attorney general and the consent will take 14days. Fuel Queues in Lagos Again?

By Chimezie UcheAgbo Long queues have returned across petrol stations in Lagos state and other parts of Nigeria for the second time in the year, 2022 due to fuel scarcity. Motorists are having to spend up to 3 hours in queues in order to purchase the premium motor spirit PMS also known as fuel, while stations with shorter queues are selling at a pump price of  N180 to N220, away from the official price of N165. The scarcity is said to be caused by the   Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) who say they can no longer sustain selling fuel at the official price of N165. The Chairman, IPMAN, Lagos Satellite Depot, Mr Akin Akinrinade in a media briefing in Lagos said, members of the association have been operating at a loss since December 2021 following the present realities of inflation in Nigeria. Mr Akinrinade stated that the current scarcity is a result of their members not being able to restock their products having operated at a loss for a long time....

A look at the colonial roots of Lagos, Nigeria shows Lagos was bombarded by the British in 1852, annexed on 6th August 1861 and declared a colony on 5th March 1862. By 1872 Lagos was a cosmopolitan trading centre with a population over 60,000. The colony and protectorate was incorporated into Southern Nigeria in February 1906, and Lagos became the capital in January 1914. Since then Lagos has grown to become the largest city in West Africa and second largest in Africa. Lagos has better job opportunities than other cities in Nigeria and as the city is rapidly growing there are more jobs in the construction sector and businesses are booming.
