How Nollywood Celebrities Celebrated Olu Jacob At 80

Nigerian celebrities came out in grand style to celebrate stage and screen icon, Olu Jacobs, as he celebrated his 80th birthday on July 11, 2022.
Few of the celebrities such as Hilda Dokubo, Ali Baba, Richard Mofe Damijo, Taiwo Ajayi Lycett, Sola Sobowale, Victor Osuagwu, Ego Boyo, Patience Ozokwor, Ireti Doyle, Ini Edo, Kate Henshaw, Kunle Afolayan, Ngozi Nwosu, Chioma Ude, Debola Lagos, Mo Abudu came out in colourful attires to celebrate with the movie icon.

However, some other celebrities who could not be present at the event, like Yul Edochie, Femi Adebayo, Saheed Balogun and others took to social media to shower praises on the industry veteran.

Yul Edochie eulogised the veteran icon, by noting how his biggest wish was to be on set with the legendary actor. Yul revealed that he got the opportunity many times and learned so much from him.
Adebayo wrote on Instagram, “I celebrate a living legend of arts and entertainment on his 80th birthday. Pa Olu Jacobs is a leading light for many of us thriving in the trade of creativity. “It is our prayers that God continues to bless your household exceedingly. Happy birthday, icon.”
Saheed Balogun said; “Happy birthday to our greatest legend, Daddy Olu Jacobs, we are really proud of you Daddy.”
Dignitaries such as the President of Nigeria, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar also joined Nollywood and professional actors, to celebrate Olu Jacobs, on his 80th birthday.
The President’s birthday message was contained in an announcement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, titled "President Buhari joins Nollywood in celebrating Olu Jacobs at 80".
While the Vice president took to his verified Instagram page to hail the seasoned actor for his contribution to Nollywood as a living legend.
He wrote: “Today, I celebrate a freshly minted Octogenarian, Sir. Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs (Olu Jacobs). You have seen the world change tremendously and imparted it in your stead. You have been an inspiration to many, a highly respected and honourable person. A living legend and an exemplary citizen. Congratulations on eight decades of life! -AA.’
Olu Jacobs is a seasoned actor who has starred in numerous Nigerian and British drama series and movies. He got married to a Nollywood actress, Joke Silva.
In 2021, he was rumoured to have died, but his wife, Joke Silva debunked the rumour and later disclosed the situation of his health as dementia with Lewy bodies.
He won a Lifetime Achievement Award at Afriff held in November 2021.
